Ava was diagnosed with Ependymoma brain cancer shortly after her 2nd birthday. During her four years of treatment she endured 39 separate surgeries nine of which were brain surgeries. She has had a tracheostomy to breathe, Mic key button for feeding, three ports, four shunt replacements, adenoids and tonsils removed and turbinates shaved down. She’s also had surgery to repair eye muscles damaged during tumor resection with another one needed in the future. On top of her amount of surgeries she has had 33 rounds of proton radiation, two separate chemotherapy regiments with the second being cut short because it was killing her faster than her tumor. Finally in 2014 she had gamma knife radiation that seemed to stop the growth of her tumor, although it is still present it has been considered stable since then. Ava is a rare soul and has been an inspiration throughout her journey.
